Identity Theft — Deputies are looking into a case of possible identity theft.
Anthony Moore of Huntingdon told deputies on Dec. 11 that he helped a friend start up an auto repair business in Jackson about 10 years ago, and during that time, a credit card company installed a credit card machine in the business with his personal information on it, including social security and bank account numbers. Moore said that his former business partner was supposed to have taken his name and information off that credit card account a few years later, but, according to Moore, the IRS recently sent him a notice stating that he owed $37,500 in taxes from that credit card account from 2018, which was due on Dec. 16, 2020.
Pursuit, Evading — A Huntingdon man evaded capture on foot after a vehicular pursuit on Dec. 12 in the western part of Carroll County.
According to the report, a deputy followed a gray Ford Mustang after observing suspicious behavior and high-speed driving along Highway 104, Terry Road, and Carters Chapel Lane. When the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop by initiating his blue lights and siren, the vehicle did not stop initially, but after a brief pursuit, the deputy started smelling smoke and the Mustang started slowing. The vehicle finally stopped on Terry Road, and the driver got out of the vehicle and ran into the woods. A male passenger, who had remained in the vehicle, identified the driver as Troy McConahae, 26, of Huntingdon, which matched the vehicle’s tag number. The passenger said that McConahae was giving him a ride home and that he had begged McConahae to stop. No illegal substances or weapons were found in the vehicle. A computer check showed that McConahae’s driver’s license was revoked due to a prior DUI conviction. McConahae had not yet been found at the time of the report, and the report did not state whether or not charges have been filed against him. The Mustang was towed from the scene.

Theft, Burglary — Matthew Christopher Lee Miller, 20, of 60 Elaine Street, Atwood, was recently charged with theft and burglary for allegedly burglarizing an Atwood business twice.
According to the report by Deputy Jason Walker, the Sheriff’s Department was contacted on Dec. 10 about a break-in at Atwood Express Convenience Store. From video surveillance at the store, deputies identified the suspect in the break-in as Miller, who they also believe broke into the store a week earlier. A search warrant was obtained for Miller’s residence, and during that warranted search, deputies found merchandise that had been taken from the store and the clothes that Miller had apparently been wearing in the video.
Burglary — Deputies are investigating the recent burglary of a home near McKenzie.
According to the report, Melinda Wilson contacted the Sheriff’s Department on Dec. 16 and told deputies that someone had broken into her home at 4525 Hinkledale Road and had taken numerous items valued at over $10,000 altogether. Wilson said she had come home at around 5 p.m. that day and found the door open and the door wreath laying in the floor. Open further inspection, she found that the door frame had been torn off and that it appeared that someone had kicked the door in. A search of the house revealed that several firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, a laptop computer, items of clothing, and other items had been taken. She told deputies that it appeared that the burglar or burglars took particular items from specific parts of the house while not touching some items of worth, which she said indicated prior knowledge of the home and where certain items were kept.
