County Fourth of July Events

There is plenty to do in Carroll County during Fourth of July weekend. Events span Thursday, June 30, to Monday, July 4, in Huntingdon, Hollow Rock, McKenzie, and McLemoresville.

June 30: Baptist Memorial Hospital
Festivities begin in Huntingdon Thursday, June 30 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Flag Pole. The service honoring veterans employed at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Carroll County is ten-to-twelve minutes long. The celebration begins at 9 a.m.

Mid-morning snacks are provided by Baptist Carroll County Hospital. The Huntingdon Fire Truck will be on-site with a ladder raised, flying a large American flag. Police, American Legion, and National Guard representatives will be present. Honored veterans include SPC E4 Leitha Bunyard - Army, Electrician’s Mate Tony Cain - Navy, Captain Rob Eldredge - Army, Dal Henry - Navy, Sergeant E5 Frank Holcomb - Army, Corporal E4 Derrick Jowers - Marines, SPC E4 Renee King - Army, SPC E4 Karen Neely - Army, and SPC Bobbie Sykes - Army.

Chaplain Michael Dennison will deliver opening remarks and acknowledge Baptist Memorial Hospital veterans. Carroll County Gideon Representative Mr. Jerry Holland will distribute Bibles to the recognized veterans. Recognizing the National Guard, 890th EN CO and the American Legion is administrator Ms. Susan Breeden. Administrative director Micah Ehmke will recognize the Huntingdon Fire and Police Departments. SPC E4 Renee King from Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm leads the Raising of the Flag with the National Anthem. SPC Bobbie Sykes from Operation Iraqi Freedom will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Chaplain Wilma Pearson of the Carroll County American Legion will read scripture, and unit coordinator Robyn Gallimore will deliver the Lord’s Prayer. Reverend Jimmy Furr of Faith Baptist Church in Hollow Rock will deliver a prayer for veterans before Chaplain Michael Dennison delivers the benediction and blessing.

July 2: Eastview Baptist Church, Hollow Rock Fire Department

The Hollow Rock Fire Department hosts an Independence Day celebration at the Hollow Rock - Bruceton Central High School practice football field. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. and fireworks will follow.

July 4: City of McKenzie, Town of McLemoresville
The City of McKenzie’s Fourth of July celebration begins with a children’s parade at 10 a.m. on Banner Row. Food vendor booths open at 6 p.m. at McKenzie City Park, 570 Como Street. Opening ceremonies at the park are from 6:30 to 6:45 p.m. Mayor Jill Holland will welcome guests. Fireworks begin at dusk unless there is inclement weather.

All vehicles must be out of the McKenzie City Park by 4:30 p.m. Park transportation is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Handicapped parking is at the top of Liberty Lane behind the softball field. Handicapped plates or windshield tags are required for parking in the designated areas.

The McLemoresville Fourth of July parade line-up is at 5:30 p.m. at the McLemoresville Baptist Church. The parade begins at 6 p.m. Attendees of the McLemoresville Fourth of July celebration can buy hamburgers, participate in a cake walk, and enjoy music from The Legends Band. Fireworks are at dark.
