It is time for the Eighth Annual Derby Day at The Dixie Carter Performing Arts and Academic Enrichment Center in Huntingdon. Held on race day, Saturday, May 4, this fun-filled event celebrates the time-honored traditions of the Kentucky Derby and is free to the public.
Derby Day at The Dixie is quickly becoming the event to attend this side of the state line for Kentucky Derby-style tailgates, amazing derby hats and a showing of that little horse race that will have the nation riveted for two minutes.
Replete with all the splendor of any Derby gala worth its salt, both men and women come bedecked in their best Derby attire. Seersucker, bow ties and hats of all shapes, sizes and colors make their debuts for this derby event. If you would like to purchase your Derby hat at the event, Mockingbird Threadworks and Lovie’s Flowers will be creating and selling derby hats for the ladies benefitting The Dixie’s Academic Enrichment Programs.
And of course, Derby Day at The Dixie boasts plenty of southern hospitality. Local citizens and businesses put together proper southern tailgates on The Dixie lawn showcasing traditional derby fare and decor.
