Dresden, Gleason Split Wins in District Contest

GLEASON (February 1) — Gleason’s Lady Bulldogs barely edged Dresden’s Lady Lions by two points in a hard-fought contest in which the two teams swapped the lead. Gleason earned the two-point advantage in the third quarter with a 18-16 tilt. The teams tied in scoring 8-8 in the first and second quarters, and 12-12 in the fourth. In the nightcap, Dresden Lions took a 20-point victory over the Gleason Bulldogs, 43-23 to earn the win.
In the ladies’ contest, Dresden scored eight in the first quarter with five points by Rachel Childress, one by Mikayla Peterson, and two by Tinley Winn. Kenady Atkins, Lillie Freeman, and Alexis Anderson each had two four shots, and Chasney Brawner had a two-point shot.
In the second quarter, Dresden’s baskets came from two 3s from Katie Washburn and two points from Mikayla Peterson. Gleason’s scores were with a 3-pointer from Alayna Anderson, two points from Alexis Anderson, two free throws from Chasney Brawner and one point from Lillie Freeman.

In the third, Dresden had five from Rachel Childress, two from Mikayla Peterson, three from Jacey Mangiaracinia (a two-pointer and a foul shot), and three foul shows from Lakin Overton. Gleason’s go-ahead quarter was earned from a 3-pointer by Atkins and Carrington Lifsey, two 3-pointers by Alexis Anderson, two points by Brawner and Shelbie Burton, and two free throws by Lillie Freeman.
Dresden scored 12 in the fourth on six points by Children, two by Peterson, and four by Tinley Winn. Gleason had four points by Atkins, including two foul shots, two by Freeman, four by Burton, and two foul shots by Brawner. For Dresden, Childress had 16, Overton had 3, Peterson 7, Winn 6, Washburn 9, and Mangiaracinia 3.
Between the ladies’ and men’s games, the four Gleason seniors were honored. Hart McKenzie was escorted by his parents, Tim and Amy McKenzie. Shelbie Burton was escorted by her mom, Bobbie Lipscomb; Ally Spain was escorted by her parents, Mark and Stacy Spain, and Hannah Whitworth was escorted by her parents Jeff and Roni Whitworth. Dresden Lions earned a 43-23 victory over the Gleason Bulldogs.
In the first quarter, Dresden’s Tyrone Jones and Trevor Moore each had 3 points on 3-pointers, Chandler Turnbow had 5 including a 3, and Kaleb Dilday had four. In the second, Zach Crawford hit a 3-pointer, Dilday and J.B. Newsome each had 4 including two foul shots, In the third, Zach Crawford had a 3-pointer, Trevor Moore added two points, and Chandler Turnbow had three, including a foul shot. In the fourth, Crawford had two, Newsome had 3, including a foul shot, and Trey Adams had 2. For Gleason, in the first, Peyton Stigall had six including a dunk, and Elijah Young had a foul shot. In the second, Dawson Arnold had two 3s, and Stigall had 2 points, in the third, Young and Olen Reed each had a foul shot, and Stigall had two. In the four, Arnold and Young each had two points.
