BRENTWOOD — Eleanor Jan Pitts Mathews, 68, Brentwood, died July 21 in Nashville.
Ms. Mathews was born April 29, 1952 in Huntingdon. Her parents were the late Mary Hines Pitts and John Anderson Pitts.
She was a 1970 graduate of Huntingdon High School where she was a cheerleader and class officer. She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and worked in marketing in the telecommunications industry in Memphis and in Birmingham, AL. After returning to Tennessee she lived in the Nashville area where she most recently was a mediating specialist with the State of Tennessee.
She was a former member of the Huntingdon First United Methodist Church and had attended West End United Methodist Church, Nashville.
Ms. Mathews leaves a son, Chip Mathews, Brentwood; a brother, Robert Edward Pitts, Knoxville; nieces, Megan Pitts Anderson, Chattanooga; Elisabeth (Betsy) Spencer Pitts, Knoxville; Eleanor (Ellie) Pitts Girdis, Reno, NV, and Debbie Boutwell, Paducah, KY; nephew, Andrew Pitts, Knoxville, and cousins Mary Ellen Pitts, Memphis; Melinda Milam Popplewell, McKenzie; Mona Milam Casteel, Woodstock, VA, and Katie Brewster Neuroth, Dallas, Texas.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, John Ammon Pitts.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
