Farmers' Market News

Posted

The McKenzie Farmers Market started off with a bang July 4 weekend. There were 325 customers and 17 vendors at the farmers market on Saturday. We had an abundance of fresh produce, and some of our vendors are beginning to bring in corn for those customers lucky enough to arrive early.

Gardens are producing so we have all your favorite vegetables including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers for your home-made pickles, yellow squash, zucchini and more.

You will want to try the delicious fried pies, fruit cobblers, breads, cakes, cookies, hard candies, jams, jellies and relishes in addition to fresh roasted Front Porch coffee.

Several of our vendors have fresh free-range eggs, including the famous-colored eggs by the “Martha Stewart Easter Egg Chickens”.

We also have the very best antibiotic and chemical additive free beef which includes ground beef, roasts, T-bones, rib-eyes, and filet mignons.

There’s a variety of beautiful hanging plants, herbs and others including the lucky buck-eye plants. You will also want to browse the handmade craft booths which includes beautiful crochet items, all-natural goat milk soaps, macrame plant hangers, hand designed t-shirts, jewelry and more.

Our youth had a great time on Saturday which started with a patriotic flag waving children’s parade on Banner Row and then our children cooled off by making their own home-made ice cream at the Farmers Market. Our next children’s activity will be July 17 at 10 a.m. when they will make fairy gardens to take home.

Save the date for July 24 when City Mitchell will be teaching a macrame class at 10 a.m. at her booth in the Farmers Market. Be sure to call Cindy at 731-335-5896 to reserve a spot by July 17. There is a small charge to cover the cost of materials.

The McKenzie Farmers Market is open Saturdays from 8 a.m.-12 noon and Tuesdays from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Some of our seasonal vendors also set up and sell produce throughout the week, so be sure to drive by or check our McKenzie Facebook page for the very latest market news.
