ATWOOD (January 5) — West Carroll High School hosted Huntingdon Tuesday for a pair of district basketball contests. The Lady War Eagles kept pace with the Fillies throughout and trailed by just a point in the fourth, but Huntingdon gained momentum late for a 62-53 win. The Mustangs controlled the early minutes, but the War Eagles battled back for a tie at the half. Huntingdon pulled ahead again in the third, but West Carroll dominated the fourth to claim a 62-55 victory.
Fillies 62, Lady War Eagles 53
The Fillies had an 18-17 edge after the opening frame, led by Addison Postlethwait with six points. Sophie Singleton scored five points with a three-pointer, Brooklyn Williams had four, and Lia Fuller scored three points. Amaya Thompson led West Carroll with five points. Alyssa Butler and Mia Jones each scored four, Butler with a three. Kaylee Butler and Erin Norman each had a pair.
Huntingdon added to the lead with a 12-9 advantage in the second quarter, led by Williams with five points. Singleton scored four, Postlethwait added a pair, and Fuller hit a free throw. Thompson again led the Lady War Eagles with five points. Jones and Norman each added a pair. At the half, Huntingdon led 30-26.
The Fillies outscored West Carroll 19-14 in the third, led by Fuller with seven points. Singleton and Brooke Butler each scored five, and Postlethwait added a pair. K. Butler led the Lady War Eagles with seven points, including a three-pointer. M. Jones also hit a three, and Thompson and Skylar Jones each added a pair. Entering the final frame, Huntingdon led 49-40.
The fourth quarter was a 13-13 wash. Williams and Singleton led the Fillies with four points each. Fuller and Postlethwait each added a pair, and B. Butler hit a freebie. Thompson led West Carroll with four points. A. Butler and Noelle Roberts each hit a three, and M. Jones also scored three points.
Huntingdon’s Sophie Singleton led all scorers with 18 points, including a three-pointer. Brooklyn Williams and Lia Fuller each scored 13, and Addison Postlethwait had a dozen.
Amaya Thompson led the Lady War Eagles with 16 points. Mia Jones scored a dozen with a three.
War Eagles 62, Mustangs 55
Huntingdon jumped out to an 18-8 lead after the first frame, led by Blake Bradley with nine points, including a three-pointer. Grant Bartholomew scored five, and D’Allen McCord and Jeb Atkinson each had a pair. Jalen Anglin led West Carroll with six points, and Jed Robinson had a pair.
The War Eagles answered with an 18-8 advantage in the second quarter, led by Luke Moore with a dozen points, including a three. Anglin scored six. Bartholomew led the Mustangs with four points, and McCord and Milton Clark each had a pair. At the half, the scored was tied at 26-26.
The Mustangs regained the lead with a 23-15 tilt in the third, led by Atkinson with nine points on a trio of threes. Bartholomew scored seven with a three. Bradley had five points, and Aden Hutcherson had a pair. Anglin led West Carroll with six points. Robinson hit a three, and Moore, Colton Hart and Jaquan Adkins each had a pair. Heading into the final frame, Huntingdon led 49-41.
The War Eagles rallied 21-6 in the fourth for the win, led by Anglin with a dozen. Moore scored four points, Tyler Johnson had three, and Xander Moon had a pair. Bartholomew had four Mustang points, and McCord added a pair.
War Eagle Jalen Anglin led all scorers with 30 points. Luke Moore scored 18 with a three-pointer.
Grant Bartholomew led Huntingdon with 20 points, including a three. Blake Bradley scored 14 with a three-pointer, and Jeb Atkinson had eleven points with a trio of threes.
