Posted

GLEASON (November 1) — The Gleason Bulldogs took their ninth loss of the season Friday night against the South Fulton Red Devils. It was a battle of pride between the two teams, as neither team had a chance to advance to the TSSAA playoffs. Cold temperatures only added to struggles of the Bulldogs who were outmanned by the Red Devils 54-8.
To open the game, South Fulton caught Gleason off guard with an onside kick. The Red Devils recovered the kick. Six plays into the drive, South Fulton found their way into the end zone. Dalton Gray who scored the touchdown also added two points with the conversion. With 9:18 still in the first quarter, South Fulton led 8-0.
The Red Devils were able to recover a second onside kick. Just like the previous drive, it took six plays for the touchdown. This time the TD and conversion was by Greg Davis. South Fulton enlarged their lead 16-0.
Gleason’s next series ended in a three-and-out. The high punt left South Fulton 60 yards away from the goal line. A couple good passes from Bryce McFarland to Eli Carlisle added a touchdown and two-point conversion. The Red Devils led the Bulldogs 24-0 with less than two minutes to play in the first quarter.

Gleason closed on the quarter with possession of the ball. As the second quarter began, the Bulldogs had a renewed vigor as Kolton Crochet and Dawson Arnold moved the ball down field. On first-and-goal from the 3-yard line, Brady Witherspoon picked up the touchdown. Isaac Denton added the two-point conversion. With 10:16 left in the opening half, it looked as if Gleason was back in the game, tailing 24-8.
As the scoreboard clock went out, so did the light in the Bulldogs’ eyes. South Fulton went on to score four unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter. The TDs were by McFarlin, Gray and Davis. The halftime score was 46-8 South Fulton; the remainder of the game was under the running clock mercy rule.
Very little went in favor of Gleason the second half, but both teams did begin making substitutions to their lineup.
The final Red Devil touchdown of the game was made by Mason Harper with Davis in for the two-point conversion. Final score of the game and season, South Fulton 54 Gleason 8.
