GLEASON (January 5) — Gleason High School hosted Greenfield Tuesday for a pair of district basketball contests and earned a sweep. The girls game was close throughout and tied going into the fourth quarter, but the host Lady Bulldogs controlled the final minutes for a 52-42 victory. The Bulldogs took an early lead and cruised to a 58-41 win.

The game was tied 15-15 after the opening frame. Caroline Crouse led Greenfield with seven points, including a three-pointer. Edie Darby scored six, and Anastyn Viyicic had a pair. Chasney Brawner led Gleason with five points. Tinsley Parkins and Ava Sawyers each hit a three, and Alayna Anderson and Hallee Young each had a pair.
The Lady Bulldogs took the lead with a 12-11 edge in the second quarter, led by Anderson and Young with four points each. Brawner and Parkins each added a pair. Crouse led the Lady Yellowjackets with six points on a pair of threes, and Darby scored five with a three. At the half, Gleason led 27-26.
Greenfield responded with a 10-9 advantage in the third, led by Darby with five points, including a three. Viyicic also hit a three-pointer, and Crouse added a pair. Anderson led Gleason with six points. Jaeda Perry had a pair, and Brawner hit a free throw. Entering the final frame, the game was knotted at 36-36.
The Lady Bulldogs took the win with a 16-6 tilt in the fourth. Anderson scored all 16 points, including a three. Darby led Greenfield with three points, Crouse added a pair, and Matti Winberry hit a free throw.
Lady Bulldog Alayna Anderson led all scorers with 28 points, including a three-pointer.
Edie Darby led the Lady Yellowjackets with 19 points, including a pair of threes. Caroline Crouse scored 17 with a trio of three-pointers.
Bulldogs 58, Yellowjackets 41
Gleason jumped out to an 11-4 lead after the first frame, led by Olen Reed with six points on a pair of three-pointers. Elijah Young scored three points, and Garrett Pinkston had a pair. Yellowjackets Kire Tribble and Matt Scates each had a pair.
Greenfield cut the deficit with a 12-10 edge in the second quarter, led by Tribble with six points. Omarion Miles scored four, and Jacob Floyd had a pair. Bulldogs Brady Witherspoon and Kylan Borneman each hit a three-pointer, and Pinkston and Isaac Denton each had a pair. At the half, the Bulldogs led 21-16.
Gleason added to the lead with a 15-6 advantage in the third, led by Young with eight points. Pinkston scored four, and Witherspoon hit another three-pointer. Tribble led the Yellowjackets with four points, and Floyd added a pair. Heading into the final frame, Gleason led 36-22.
The Bulldogs sealed the win with a 22-19 tilt in the fourth, led by Pinkston with 13 points. Young scored five, and Witherspoon and Denton each added a pair. Tribble and Floyd led Greenfield with five points each, Tribble with a three. Barkley Biggs scored four, Scates had three points and Will Harris had a pair.
Bulldog Garrett Pinkston led all scorers with 21 points. Elijah Young scored 16.
Kire Tribble led the Yellowjackets with 17 points, including a three-pointer.
