Greenfield Girls, Gleason Boys Win

GLEASON (January 31) — Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets dominated the Class 1A contest with Gleason Lady Bulldogs on Friday, January 31 and walked away with a 76-43 victory over their in-county rival. In the nightcap, Greenfield boys’ 25-point fourth quarter was not enough to defeat Gleason, who earned the 56-52 victory.
In the ladies’ contest, the undefeated Lady Yellowjackets were led by seniors Tess Darby, 22, and Chloe Moore-McNeil with 20, and Tess’ younger sister, Edie Darby with 19 points.
Greenfield added 15 in the first, 17 in the second, 24 in the third, and 20 in the fourth quarter. The Darby sisters each tossed in two three-pointers. Other scoring included MiKayla Peterson with 9, Caroline Crouse with 4, and Reese Biggs with 2.

Gleason Lady Bulldogs were led by Kenady Atkins with 14, including a 3-pointer and six free throws, Carrington Lifsey with 12 including four three-pointers, Alexis Anderson and Veronica Rosa with six each, Alanya Anderson with 3, and Chasney Brawner with 2. Scoring by quarter was 13, 8, 8, and 14.
In the men’s contest, it was Gleason, who dominated the first quarter, doubling Greenfield’s score. Gleason scored 16, 13, 12, and 15 in the respective quarters. Elijah Young pounded in 28 points with nine field goals and 10 free throws. He was followed by Dawson Arnold with 12, Garrett Pinkston with 11, and Brady Witherspoon with 5.
Greenfield scored 8, 15, 5, and 25 points in the respective quarters. Jacob Floyd and Kobe Thomas topped the leaderboard with 17 each. Blake Holliman had six, Matt Scates, Barkley Biggs and Luke Stone each had three points, Will Harris had two, and Baker Porter had 1.
