TREZEVANT, Tenn, - Funeral services for Helen Joy Watkins are Friday, October 18, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Green Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday, at Brummitt McKenzie Funeral Home 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. and again on Friday, 12 p.m. until service time at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Mrs. Watkins, 89, died at her residence on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. She was born on October 24, 1934, to Bennie Haywood Walker and Linnie Keel Walker. She is a member of Pleasant Green Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, a co-owner of Holly Leaf Grocery, Bill’s Dairy Bar, and Watkins Grocery, a former factory worker, and she retired from Libby’s Grocery. She was an awesome cook, known for a delicious coconut cake, loved gospel singing and playing the piano.
She is survived by her sons, Joe Ray (Debbie) Watkins of McKenzie and Steven (Malorie) Watkins of Trezevant; two brothers, Hobert (Carol) Walker of Rutherford and Gary Walker of Trezevant; two fur kids, Buddy and Gidget; one grandson, Devin Watkins of McKenize; two step-grandchildren, Sean (Lauren) Bomar and Damon Bomar; and two step-great-grandchildren, Dylan Bomar and S.J. Bomar.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, Billy Ray Watkins, a brother, C.B. Walker and AXL, her fur baby.
