Huntingdon Middle School Baseball Unbeaten

The Huntingdon Middle Mustangs opened up their baseball season on Monday, February 28 with a doubleheader at Martin Middle winning both games 11-0 and 4-3. Huntingdon used four pitchers on the mound and scored the 11 runs on eight hits with most of them coming in the fourth inning when they scored nine runs to secure the win. Caleb Ezell earned the win on the mound for the Mustangs.

In the second game, the Mustangs scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning and single runs in the second and third innings tapping four total hits for the contest. Martin tied the game 3-3 in the top of the third inning. Thomas Kendrick drew a walk in the bottom of the third and later scored the winning run. Several Mustangs saw pitching time on the mound with Silas Sharpe earning the win.

They opened March with a 6-5 win at home against Paris Inman in a close contest. Inman scored first in the top of the first inning with the Mustangs scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. Inman exploded for five runs in the top of the third inning to take a 5-2 lead. Huntingdon came back and tied the game 5-5 with solo runs in the bottom of the third, fourth, and fifth innings. After no scoring in the sixth and seventh innings for either team, the Mustangs came to bat in the bottom of the eighth inning loading the bases. Braylin Dearmon was hit by a pitch driving in the winning run for Huntingdon. Owen Krueziger got the win giving up only one hit and zero runs over three innings on the mound striking out four and walked none.

The Mustangs began a three-game road swing on March 3 with a 10-0 win over Henry County. Krueziger notched another win throwing a complete game shutout allowing no runs on three hits, striking out five and walking none. Huntingdon got on the board early with four first inning runs and posted solo runs in the second and third innings and two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. They spread out eight hits during the game with three Mustangs recording multiple hits.

Then they traveled to the other side of Mayo Bottom to take on the McKenzie Rebels on March 8. The first two innings were scoreless before the Mustangs got on the board first with a solo run in the bottom of the third inning. Huntingdon scored the last three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Caleb Ezell went five innings allowing no runs on one hit, striking out seven and walking one. Owen Krueziger pitched one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Ezell and Broox Bennett had multiple hits for the Mustangs.

Huntingdon made their way to Greenfield on March 14 where they scored 13 runs in the first inning and six runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Yellowjackets 19-4. Four Mustangs saw time on the mound while Shawn Simpson and Tripp Johnson recorded three hits each for Huntingdon. Several others recorded hits as well.

The final stop on the road journey was to Paris Inman where the Mustangs picked up another win 7-5. Both teams scored a pair of runs in the first inning. Huntingdon took the lead for good with a solo run in the top of the third inning and added two more runs in the fifth and solo runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Inman made a comeback effort with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Caleb Ezell was the winning pitcher for the Mustangs pitching nearly a complete game allowing five runs on ten hits, striking out four and walking one. Owen Kreuziger threw a third of an inning of relief and recorded the last out to earn the save.

Huntingdon tallied eight hits in the game with Kreuziger and Silas Sharpe recording multiple hits. The Mustangs also stole eight bases during the game.

The Middle School Mustangs continued their unbeaten streak with a 10-0 win over Henry County on March 21 scoring four runs in the bottom of the first and three runs each in the second and third innings. Huntingdon tallied ten hits with Shawn Simpson getting three hits in three at bats while Broox Bennett and Braylon Dearmon also got multiple hits.
