Huntingdon Approves Budget, Retains Tax Rate

HUNTINGDON (July 9) Members of the Huntingdon Town Council approved the 2019-2020 budget and tax rate during its July 9 meeting. Also approved a rate increase of 1.9 percent for water and wastewater for municipal water customers.

The tax rate will remain unchanged at $1.34 per $100 assessed value.

The budget anticipates revenues for the General Fund in the amount of $4,937,850 in revenues and $5,011,600 in expenses, including a transfer of $278,000 to the Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center Special Projects budget. The estimated expenses over revenue for the General Fund is $73,750.

The Drug Fund has revenue of $5,050 and expenses of $48,500; Solid Waste Fund is $265,000 in revenues and $265,000 in expenses.

The Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center Project Fund has revenues of $529,100 in grants, sponsors, tuition, and ticket sales, $278,000 from the General Fund for a total revenue of $807,100 and expenses of $805,300.

The Utility Fund estimates receipts at $3,199,100 and expenses at $2,598,000.

A resolution to make donations to the following agencies was approved:

AYSO youth Soccer, $500, Carroll Academy Athletic Program $375, Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, $1,500, Carroll County Library, $2,500, Carroll County Rescue Squad, $750, Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame, $187.50, Carl Perkins Center $375, Huntingdon Girls Softball League $750, Huntingdon Band Boosters, $750, Huntingdon Jr. Babe Ruth, $375, Huntingdon Boys Baseball, $750, Huntingdon Golf Team $200, Huntingdon Police Help for Needy $187, Huntingdon Recreation Center $500, HSSD Summer Recreational Program $1,500, Huntingdon Project Graduation $250, Huntingdon Youth Football League $500, L.H. Chance Memorial Scholarship $500, and West Tennessee River Basin Authority $2,600.

Mayor Dale Kelley expressed the city's condolensces to the family of Dr. Jerry Atkins, who died Tuesday, July 9. Kelley said Atkins was a great friend, a true family doctor, and a man who touched the life of so many.

Absent were Tim Tucker and Kelly Eubanks and Carl Byars.
