Huntingdon Man Charged with Arson, Attempted Murder

Posted

Jason Forsythe, 49, of 4650 McLemoresville Road, Huntingdon, was arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated arson, and criminal attempt following the investigation into an April 19 fire near Huntingdon.
According to the report by Deputy Michael Mulligan, he responded to 6185 Old Stage Road at around 7 a.m. on April 19 after receiving a call about an individual shooting at a barn and lighting a car on fire.
Upon arrival, Mulligan found a shed, converted into living quarters, was fully engulfed in flames. Mulligan observed Forsythe looking out of the window of a recreational vehicle. Forsythe told the deputy he did not know what started the fire.
Having knowledge of an outstanding warrant against Forsythe, Mulligan placed him under arrest.

Another deputy observed Ramona Hendon, who lived at that address, standing across the street in a distressed state. She told the deputy she was awakened by a loud boom, heard Forsythe say she was going to die, and realized her residence was on fire.
She said she managed to escape the structure and called 911.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and local fire marshal were contacted to assist with the investigation, and it was found that video surveillance from a neighboring residence supported Hendon’s account.
Forsythe was charged by TBI Agent Bryant Allen.
