MILAN (September 21) — Coming into Friday night’s game the Huntingdon Mustangs’ high octane offensive touted the highest scoring average in the state at 55 points per game. By night’s end, the Mustangs fell short of their season average scoring 44 points to Milan’s 29.
Huntingdon received the opening kickoff. Starting at mid-field, the Mustangs marched the ball 57 yards in 10 plays for the touchdown by Brandon Lawton on third-and-goal. Cole Edwards tacked on the PAT giving Huntingdon the 7-0 lead with 6:46 to play in the first quarter.
The remainder of the first quarter resulted in a defensive strong hold for the Mustangs and Bulldogs. Milan was forced to punt on a quick three-and-out and suffered a turnover on downs closing the quarter. Sandwiched in between was a Mustang three-and-out.
Huntingdon’s Hunter Ensley scored on a 60-yard touchdown run on the opening series of the second quarter. Edwards’ PAT was no good; Mustangs lead 13-0 at 10:20 mark.
Edwards would make up for the failed PAT with a 25-yard field goal increasing the Huntingdon lead 16-0 with 4:05 to play in the first half.
On the next series, Milan cut the deficit in half with a touchdown of their own. Working their way down the field 70 yards in 13 plays, Adarius Hill crossed the goal-line on from six yards out. A successful two-point conversion made it 16-8 closing out the first half.
The Bulldogs were able to score the opening possession of the second half. Orlandis Williamson broke loose for 63-yard touchdown run. Looking to tie the game up at 16 each, the Bulldogs lined up for the two-point conversion but were penalized for a delay of game backing them up five yards. The penalty forced the coaching staff to elect to kick the extra point. The score with 8:59 to play in the third quarter was Huntingdon leading 16-15.
