Posted

HUNTINGDON — Huntingdon’s Town Council unanimously agreed to apply for a Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) Infrastructure Planning Grant following a suspension of the rules due to the item not originally being on the agenda.
According to Mayor Dale Kelley, the grant program helps communities understand their needs and plan for future work and funding. The grants are up to $45,000 with a five percent local match with the funds being used for water loss studies.
The current CDBG grant is conducting an evaluation of the sewer system basins flow monitoring to help identify where issues are occurring. The grant is also replacing two aging and inadequate pumping stations including Highway 22 Pumping Station and Williams Street Pumping Station to increase dependability and efficiency.

In other business, the council awarded the low bid from Hayes Pipe and Supply, Inc. to furnish construction materials for the Lake Area Force Main Extension. This is the Huntingdon’s pressure sewer drain that serves the area around the 1000-Acre Lake. The low bid was for $42,031.25 with other bids submitted from G&C Supply and Consolidated Pipe and Supply Company.
Council members approved the second and final reading of Ordinance 590 which amends Title 8, Chapter 1 of the Huntingdon Municipal Code to repeal Section 8-106 concerning residency requirements.
A request from West Tennessee Edge 2012 for the use of Edwards Park north field on Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
After completing the business on the agenda, the Mayor and Council recognized four Huntingdon All-Star Teams for their accomplishments during the summer. Three of those teams were in attendance making for a large audience for the meeting. The teams included Huntingdon T-Ball All-Stars who won the District and Gold State Championships, The Huntingdon Rookie All-Stars who won the District Championship, The Huntingdon Minor All Stars who won a Silver State Championship, and Huntingdon Major All-Stars who won a district championship.
