In Carroll County, 1,208 books are mailed to children from birth to age five each month. 73 percent of Carroll County’s children under five years of age receive books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program, a figure which is above the state average. The percentage reflects that approximately three out of every four children who are eligible for the program are enrolled in Carroll County Imagination Library.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book-gifting program that provides books free of charge each month to children from birth to five years of age. Dolly Parton started Imagination Library in 1995 for the children in her home, Sevier County, Tennessee. The State of Tennessee subsequently pledged to pursue statewide coverage for every child under five years old across the state, and, with the help of committed community partners, children in Carroll County can receive books free of charge.
Through a partnership between the Carroll County government, the United Way, the Governor’s Books from Birth program, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Gamma Theta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, this program is available to Carroll County children.
