HUNTINGDON - Judge William Edward Hammett, 95, of the Shiloh Community, Tennessee, died Friday, February 14, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon, Tennessee.

Funeral services were Monday, February 17, 2020, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Chase Funeral Home.  Bro. Scott Carter officiated the service.  Interment was in the New Hope Cemetery.

Judge Hammett was born January 11, 1925 in Yuma, Tennessee, to the late John Hammett and Vida (Birdwell) Hammett.  He was a retired General Sessions Judge for Dyer County, retired Tennessee Highway Patrol, member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, disabled Army veteran of the Philippines war.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Juanita Frances (Webb) Hammettt, two sisters, Lucille Webb, Vonnell Pritchard and four brothers, Emmett Hammett, John Julian Hammett, Carmack Hammett, and Justin Hammett.

He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Gurley (Danny), one son, Johnny E. Hammett, both of Westport, one sister-in-law, Earlene Hammett of Huntingdon, and his caregiver, Barbara Walker.  He also leaves three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Chase Funeral Home had charge.
