King Announces Candidacy For General Sessions Judge

Michael King is a candidate for Carroll County General Sessions and Juvenile Judge. In Carroll County, the General Sessions Judge also serves as the Juvenile Judge. General Sessions/Juvenile Judges are elected for a 8-year terms and hear both criminal and civil cases filed in Carroll County. The Juvenile Court hears child custody, Department of Children’s Services dependency and neglect, and juvenile criminal cases. In Carroll County, the Juvenile Judge has the unique responsibility to supervise the operations of Carroll Academy.

Michael and his wife, Misty King, have been married for 22 years. Misty is a physical therapist at Results Physical Therapy in Huntingdon. They have two children, Wesley, 19, and Hannah, 17. Wesley is a student at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Hannah is a junior at Huntingdon High School and works at First Baptist Church Wee Care Ministry. Michael is the son of Russell and Peggy King of Camden. He grew up on his family farm outside of Bruceton in the Pleasant Hill Church Community. There he learned the value of hard work and the importance of family.

Michael is a community volunteer having been involved with youth baseball/softball, Huntingdon Lions Club, Relay For Life, and several other local organizations. He was also one of the founding members of the Carroll County Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. The King family are active members of First Baptist Church in Huntingdon.

For the past 21 years, Michael King has practiced law in Huntingdon where he is a partner at King & Thompson Attorneys. He has extensive litigation experience having represented thousands of clients in Carroll County and various other courts across the State of Tennessee. He has more than a decade of experience representing children and parents in Juvenile Court. Michael is a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Approved General Civil and Family Mediator. As part of his law practice, Michael mediates custody disputes between parents that are filed in Juvenile Court.

Michael serves as general counsel to Huntingdon, Clarksburg, and Hollow Rock–Bruceton Special School Districts. He serves as City Attorney to the Town of Bruceton and the City of Clarksburg. Additionally, Michael represents several of our public utilities and public housing authorities along with several private companies, banks, and medical facilities.

In 2009, the Tennessee Supreme Court appointed Michael King to serve as a hearing committee member for the Board of Professional Responsibility, which is the board that supervises the ethical conduct of lawyers in Tennessee. In 2011, the Tennessee Supreme Court elevated him to serve as one of the nine members of the Board. In 2015, the Court named Michael Chairman of the Board of Professional Responsibility where he served for 3 years.

Michael King says he will work hard for Carroll County to ensure that we have an efficient, fair, and impartial General Sessions and Juvenile Court. He is appreciative of all the great work that the teachers and staff are doing at Carroll Academy and will be an advocate for the future success of Carroll Academy.

Early Voting starts Friday, July 15 and runs through July 30. The election for Carroll County General Sessions/Juvenile Judge are August 4, 2022.
