Lady Bulldogs Eliminated in Nine-Inning Heartbreaker

UNION CITY (May 6) — The Gleason High School Lady Bulldogs ended their season Monday with a hard-fought loss in extra innings to Union City in the District 13A Softball Tournament. The tournament host Lady Tornadoes broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the ninth to seal a 5-3 win and eliminate the Lady Bulldogs.
Gleason struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Each team tallied one run in the third. Union City plated one in the top of the sixth to pull within a run, then tied it with a run in the seventh. After a scoreless eighth, the Lady Tornadoes pulled ahead for the first time with a pair in the top of the ninth, then held the Lady Bulldogs a bay in the home half to claim the victory.
Lady Bulldog Ally Spain was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Bailey Bandy was 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and two runs scored. McKayla Ivy was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Lexia Snider was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Cory Burke was 1-for-5 with a run scored. Whitney Clark was 1-for-4.
Cory Burke took the complete-game loss for Gleason, allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out ten and walking three in nine innings.
