No. 5 Lady Lions Defeat Lady Bulldogs

GLEASON (January 24) - The Dresden Lady Lions surpassed the Gleason Lady Bulldogs in the second half to take a 47-35 victory.

Haylee Jarred had 15 points in the second half to hoist the Loins over the Lady Bulldogs.

Gleason and Dresden had just a one-point difference in the first half. The Lions took a 9-8 lead in the first quarter. Lucy Curry chalked up six points in the paint. Maggie Oliver drove to the basket for two points. Paisley Pittman tacked on one point from the free-throw line.

The Lady Bulldogs had just three shots go through the net. Ava Sawyers and Sophie Wilson drained a 3-pointer. Autumn Mingle drove to the basket for two points. Gleason trailed 9-8 at the end of the first quarter.

Dresden fell behind by just one point in the second quarter. Haylee Jarred, Kaylee Jarred and Oliver all drained three points each. Curry drove to the basket for two points.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 21-20 lead at halftime. Mingle had two shots in the paint and one from the line and behind the arc. Wilson drained another 3-pointer. Kaylee Tucker made two shots at the free-throw line.

Gleason only scored three points during the final quarter. Sawyers drove to the basket for two points. Mingle tacked on one point from the line.

The Lions had eight points in the final quarter to exceed the Bulldogs. Haylee Jarred had three points from the free-throw line and a shot from behind the arc. Pittman had a shot for two points. The Lady Lions defeated the Lady Bulldogs 47-35.

The Dresden Lady Lions are currently ranked number 5 in the Associated Press poll top ten.

The Gleason Lady Bulldogs will host the Greenfield Yellowjackets on Friday, Feb. 2. Tip-off is 6 p.m.

Lions overcome Bulldogs in Second Half
The Dresden Lions defeat the Gleason Bulldogs by single digits. The Lions topped the Bulldogs 56-51.

Raymond Johnson led the Lions to victory with 23 points.

The Lions and Bulldogs were tied at the end of the first quarter. Gage Byington had four points for the Bulldogs in the first quarter. Kade Sawyers and Owen Taylor had two points.

Johnson had six points for the Lions. Reese Bell had a shot in the paint for two points. The Lions and Bulldogs were tied 8-8 going into the second quarter.

The Bulldogs took the lead at halftime. Kylan Borneman chalked up seven points in the second quarter. Byington drove to the basket for two points, then drained a shot from the free throw line. Kyzer Crochet had two points in the quarter.

The Lions scored nine points in the quarter. Johnson drove to the basket for four points. Bell had a shot from behind the arc, then made two shots from the foul line. The Lions trailed 20-17 at halftime.

The Lions came out hot in the second half. Nick Turnbow drained three 3-point shots and tacked on two points. Johnson had a three-point play in the paint, then added four more points. Bell had two points, then tacked on one more from the free-throw line. Mark Maddox had a shot in the paint for two points.

The Bulldogs scored 11 points in the third quarter. Byington had four points. Borneman had a shot from behind the arc. Tristian Chandler and Carter Cook had two points each. The Bulldogs fell behind 40-31 going into the final quarter.

The Bulldogs tried to catch up with the Lions but fell just short. Sawyers drained two 3-point shots. Borneman made another three-point shot. Byington drove to the basket for four points. Crochet made three shots at the free-throw line. Crochet and Taylor had two points each in the paint.

The Lions held their lead during the final quarter scoring 16 points. Johnson had six points during the quarter. Maddox had a shot from behind the arc, then had two more points in the paint. Maconnell Forrester added two points to the board for the Lions. Bell tacked on two points from the free throw line, and Tatum Oliver added one point. The Lions defeated the Bulldogs 56-51.

The Gleason Bulldogs will host the Greenfield Yellowjackets on Friday, Feb. 2. Tip-off is after the conclusion of the girls’ contest.
