Lady Rebels are District 14 Champions, Rebels also Advance to Region Tourney

SHARON (September 23-24) — The McKenzie High School golf teams competed in their respective District 14 tournaments last week at Persimmon Hills Golf Course. The Lady Rebels claimed the district title, while the Rebels finished third. Both teams advanced to the Region 7 tournaments on Monday at Milan.
Monday was District 14 Tournament Day for the McKenzie gentlemen. There were 39 boys that participated with the following schools represented: Peabody, Gleason, South Fulton, Bradford, Greenfield, Gibson Co, Union City, Westview, Dresden and McKenzie. Coming in third place with a score of 350 was McKenzie, defeated by second place Union City with a score of 340 and first place Gibson County with a score of 338. All three of these teams advance to the Region tournament next week to be played at Milan. Johnathan Moore shot 78, followed by Logan Green with 80. Nathan Nanney had a 92, and Nolan Renfro completed the teams score with 100. Johnathan Moore came in third place individually after a playoff with Carter Walton from Union City. The playoff hole was 18 and after four playoffs, Johnathan Moore won to bring home the third place medal. Logan Green was also in a playoff for fifth place individual with Joyner Caldwell from Union City. Hole 18 was again used as the playoff hole, but Joyner won this one and put Logan at sixth overall and just shy of receiving a medal.
Tuesday was District 14 Tournament Day for the McKenzie ladies. The Lady Rebels golf team captured the District 14 Golf Tournament Championship. This makes the third year for the ladies to bring home the district championship. There were 19 participants with the following schools being represented: McKenzie, Gibson County, Union City, Gleason, Greenfield, South Fulton and Bradford. The team was led by Maggie Glass with three over par 76. Juleyanne Weatherford came in with 89, and Whitley Smith’s 94 in her final District tournament for the Rebels added to the team total and a dominating 41-stroke victory over their closest competitor. Gibson County finished in second place, and Greenfield came in third. All three teams advance to the Region tournaments to be played in Milan. All three McKenzie ladies placed as individuals in the tournament. Maggie Glass took first place honors, Juleyanne Weatherford claimed third place and Whitley Smith claimed fourth.
