MARTIN (October 10) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebel soccer team claimed the District 13A Championship Thursday with a thrilling, 2-0 victory over the host Westview Lady Chargers.
The win avenges a 4-3 regular-season loss to the Lady Chargers just two weeks prior.
Lady Rebels Allie Chappell and Savannah Nesbitt each scored a goal, and goalkeeper Gracie Dillingham recorded seven saves for the shutout.

Following the game, district awards were presented. Lady Rebels Maggie Aird, Allie Chappell, Gracie Dillingham and Kassidy Brown were among those named to the All-District 13A team, and Aird, Chappell, Dillingham and Savannah Nesbitt were named to the All-Tournament team. Hannah Dillingham was named District 13A Defensive Player of the Year, and Head Coach Karlene Brown was named District 13A Coach of the Year.
The Region 7A Tournament is scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 22. McKenzie will host the District 14A runner-up, while Westview will travel to face the champion. Winners will advance to the championship game, scheduled for Thursday. Then, teams will play Sectional games to earn a state tournament berth.
McKenzie and Westview have both reached the state tournament in each of the previous two seasons.
