Lady Rebels Claim Title with 10-2 Win Over Fillies

HUNTINGDON (May 11) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels claimed the District 11A Softball Championship with a 10-2 win Tuesday over the tournament host Huntingdon Fillies.

The win completes a district tournament sweep for McKenzie High School girls sports this year as the Lady Rebels currently hold district titles in soccer, golf, basketball and softball.

The Lady Rebels jumped out to a big advantage early with four runs in the bottom of the second inning and padded the lead with three in the fifth. The Fillies got on the board with a run in the top of the sixth, but McKenzie added three more in the home half. Huntingdon plated a final run in the seventh.

Lady Rebel Savannah Davis went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and four RBIs. Anna Robinson was 3-for-3 with a triple, a walk, two RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base. Katie Chesser went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Belle O’Brien was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Payton Ognibene went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Kassidy Brown was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Briley Auvenshine went 2-for-4 with a walk. Nicole Gibson was 1-for-4.

Huntingdon’s Josie Sanders went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Kenadie Gibson was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Lilyan Wortham went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Kayla Pulling was 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Adalyn Allen went 1-for-3. Shelby Childress was 1-for-4.

Briley Auvenshine earned the complete-game victory for McKenzie, allowing two earned runs on eight hits while striking out a dozen and walking two.

Natalie Kreuziger took the loss for the Fillies, allowing six earned runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking three in four and a third innings. Rylee Holladay pitched the final inning and two-thirds, allowing four earned runs on eight hits and a walk.
