MEMPHIS (October 27) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebel soccer team will compete in the TSSAA Class A State Girls’ Soccer Tournament for the third consecutive year following a 3-1 Sectional win over Crosstown Sunday.
Lady Rebel Savannah Nesbitt scored a pair of goals in the Sectional, and Allie Chappell scored one. Goalkeeper Gracie Dillingham had five saves in the win.
The team was forced to travel for the game after a tough, 1-0 overtime loss to Westview in the Region 7 Championship game Thursday in McKenzie. Dillingham also had five saves in that contest.
It’s been a back-and-forth rivalry this year for the two teams. The Lady Chargers won at home 4-3 in the regular season, then the Lady Rebels took a 2-0 win, also in Martin, to claim the District 13A Championship.
Westview also won their Sectional contest Sunday for their third consecutive state bid. If the Lady Rebels and Lady Chargers were to meet again in the tournament, it would be in the championship round.
The state tournament is played at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, beginning Wednesday, November 6. McKenzie will face Adamsville at 7 p.m.
