Lady Rebels Finish Season Strong, Host Playoff Opener Tuesday

McKENZIE (October 1, 3) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebel soccer team wrapped up the regular season on a high note with a pair of home shutout wins, 5-0 over Milan Tuesday and 7-0 over district foe South Fulton Thursday (Senior Night).
Prior to Thursday’s game, five Lady Rebel seniors were recognized on the field: Isabella Colotta, daughter of Terry and Sharon Colotta; Kim Essary, daughter of Kimberly and Jason Essary; Ellaina Moreno, daughter of Raelynn Moreno and Trinity Maynard; Sabrina Renteria Vazquez, daughter of Manuel Renteria and Virginia Vazquez; and Amber Wright, daughter of Jeff and Kathy Wright.
In Tuesday’s 5-0 win over Milan, Lady Rebel Maggie Aird scored four goals. Allie Chappell scored a goal and had two assists. Goalkeeper Gracie Dillingham had no save opportunities.

In Thursday’s 7-0 district win over South Fulton, Allie Chappell scored four goals and had an assist. Savannah Nesbitt scored a pair of goals, Kim Essary had a goal and Maggie Aird had two assists. Goalkeeper Gracie Dillingham again had no save opportunities.
McKenzie ends the regular season with a record of 8-2-1, 2-1 in District 13A. Allie Chappell led the team in goals with 17, followed by Maggie Aird with eleven and Savannah Nesbitt with nine. Aird led the team in assists with eight, followed by Chappell with seven. Goalkeeper Gracie Dillingham recorded 56 saves with six shutouts.
The Lady Rebels finish second in District 13A and will host third place Gibson County Tuesday in the opening round of the district tournament. The contest begins at 4:30 p.m.
