McKENZIE (August 6, 8) — The McKenzie Middle School Lady Rebels opened the softball season with a pair of home wins last week. Tuesday, they shutout the Dresden Lady Lions 2-0. Thursday was an eight-inning barnburner and a 4-3 comeback win against the Lakeview Lady Yellow Jackets.

McKenzie plated a run in each of the first two innings for the win.
Lady Rebel Mikaela Reynolds was 1-for-1 with a walk, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Belle O’Brien was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Bailey Hill was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Nicole Gibson was 1-for-2.
Belle O’Brien earned the complete-game shutout for McKenzie, allowing one hit while striking out seven and walking one.
Lady Rebels 4, Lakeview Lady Yellow Jackets 3 (F/8)
Lakeview took an early lead with a run in the top of the first. McKenzie tied it with one in the bottom of the fourth. The score held through five innings to force extras. In the seventh, sudden-death tiebreaker rules took effect, and each team began its respective half-innings with a runner on second base. In the top of the eighth, the Lady Yellow Jackets pushed across a pair for a 3-1 lead, but the Lady Rebels plated three in the home half for the walk-off win.

Nicole Gibson was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Savannah Davis was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Bailey Hill was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Belle O’Brien earned the complete-game, eight-inning win for McKenzie, allowing three unearned runs on one hit while striking out ten and walking two.
