Lady Rebels, Rebels Rout Big Sandy on Senior Night

McKENZIE (February 4) — Tuesday was a special night at McKenzie High School as the Lady Rebels and Rebels played their final home games of the regular season and celebrated Senior Night. The 15 senior players, cheerleaders, managers and announcer were joined on the court by family members and recognized individually. The teams then thrilled the home fans with blowout victories over visiting district foe Big Sandy.
The Lady Rebels shook off a slow start and pulled away in the second quarter en route to a 61-19 victory. The Rebels were in control from the opening tip for an 81-20 win.
Senior cheerleaders are: Momi DeLoach, daughter of Blane and Sarahn DeLoach; Madison Hendrix, daughter of Steven Hendrix and Tanya and Johnathan Arnold; and Sydney Pate, daughter of Jeremy and Gina Pate.
Senior Lady Rebels are: Shelby Davis, daughter of Boo and Andrea Davis; Whitley Smith, daughter of Brian Smith and Cassie and Clint Ellis; and Camille Travis, daughter of Brian and Jennifer Travis.
Senior basketball announcer is Nathan Rorer, son of David Rorer and Kristy and Keith Chesser.
Senior Rebel manager is Drew Beeler, son of Tim and Ashley Beeler.
Senior Rebels are: Micah Austin, son of Rachel Austin; Lazarick Hill, son of Benard Scott and brother of Kelvin Scott; Lane Horton, son of the late Michele Horton and Paul and Jennifer Horton; Evan Jarrett, son of David and Michele Jarrett; Lucas King, grandson of Karen Laws; Witt Mitchum, brother of Luke Mitchum and nephew of Dan and Carie-Neal Bradfield; and Nate Whitsell, son of Lavonia Whitsell and guardians Ryan and Susan Dyer.

Senior Lady Rebel Whitley Smith, who was sidelined for the entire season with an injury, started the game and scored the first two points of the game and the final two points of her career with an uncontested layup. After Big Sandy was allowed a reciprocal basket, Smith exited the game to a standing ovation.
McKenzie had a 13-9 lead after the opening frame, led by Anna Callahan with seven points. Dani Dyer, Lilly Bennett and Smith each had a pair. Lady Red Devil Lauren Flowers hit a three-pointer, and Ashlyn Berry, Lydia Dykes and Avery Mayberry each had a pair.
The Lady Rebels pulled away with a 21-2 advantage in the second quarter, led by Bennett with eight points. Kylie Reynolds and Camille Travis each hit a three, and Shelby Davis also scored three points. Dyer and Savannah Nesbitt each had a pair. Mayberry scored Big Sandy’s two points. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 34-11.

McKenzie stifled the Lady Red Devils 19-2 in the third, led by Davis with ten points, including a trio of three-pointers. Bennett scored four, and Dyer hit a three. Nesbitt added a pair. Berry had Big Sandy’s two points. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 53-13.
The Lady Rebels capped the win with an 8-6 edge in a quick fourth, led by Katie Chesser with a three-pointer. Anna Robinson and Briley Auvenshine each had a pair, and Reynolds hit a free throw. Dykes, Flowers and Kaylee Stockdale each had a pair for the Lady Red Devils.
Lady Rebel Lilly Bennett led all scorers with 14 points. Shelby Davis scored 13 with a trio of threes.
Lauren Flowers led Big Sandy with five points, incuding a three-pointer.
Rebels 81, Red Devils 20
McKenzie stormed out to a 21-4 lead after the first frame, led by Nate Whitsell with nine points, including a three-pointer. Lazarick Hill scored seven, also with a three. Lucas King hit a three, and Witt Mitchum had a pair. Red Devils Michael Davis and Jaylen Christopher each had a pair.
The Rebels had a 30-11 advantage in the second quarter, led by King with seven points, including a three. Evan Jarrett scored six, and Caleb Gill had five points with a three. Lane Horton scored four, Hill hit a three, and Micah Austin also scored three points. Whitsell added a pair. Cole Pierpoint led Big Sandy with four points. Seth Green hit a three-pointer, and Brandon Berry and Blake Sims each had a pair. At the half, the Rebels led 51-15.
McKenzie enjoyed an 11-3 tilt in the third, led by Austin with five points, including a three. Jarrett scored four, and Mitchum added a pair. Davis had a pair for the Red Devils, and Berry hit a freebie. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 62-18.
The Rebels sealed the victory with a quick, 19-2 fourth, led by Bryson Steele with six points. Marquez Taylor scored four, and Zayden McCaslin hit a three. Johnathan Moore, Jaden Currie and Bryant Haynes each had a pair. Green had Big Sandy’s two points.
Rebel Nate Whitsell led all scorers with eleven points, including a three-pointer. Lucas King, Lazarick Hill and Evan Jarrett each scored ten, King and Hill with a pair of threes.
Seth Green led the Red Devils with five points, including a three.
