Lady Rebels Top Lady Lions on Eighth Grade Night

McKENZIE (September 8) — The McKenzie Middle School Lady Rebel softball team hosted Dresden Middle School Tuesday and celebrated Eighth Grade Night with an exciting 8-6 win over the Lady Lions.

Prior to the first pitch, Lady Rebel eighth graders were recognized on the field with their parents. They include Aubrey Jackson, daughter of Brady and Heather Jackson; Sophie Carrasco, daughter of Roy and Kristen Smith; and Taylor Rawls, daughter of Luke and Erica Rawls.

After two scoreless frames to start the game, Dresden struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the third. McKenzie answered with four in the home half to take a 4-2 lead. The Lady Lions tied it with a pair in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Rebels plated four in the bottom half to reclaim the advantage. Dresden rallied for two runs in the top of the fifth, but McKenzie held them there to claim the 8-6 win.

Lady Rebel Taylor Rawls led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, four RBIs and a run scored. Sophie Carrasco went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Sarah Luci was 1-for-1 with a walk, an RBI and three stolen bases. Amy Kate Washburn went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Haylee Beard was 0-for-0 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored. Aubrey Jackson went 0-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored. Abbi Ghyers was 0-for-1 with two walks and two stolen bases. Molly French went 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored. Carli Beeler was 0-for-1 with a stolen base and a run scored.

Alyssa Redmond earned the win for McKenzie, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking three in five innings.
