Lady Rebels Top Union City, Rebels Best Dyersburg Trojans

McKENZIE (December 11) — McKenzie High School’s scheduled opponents for Friday were forced to cancel, but the basketball teams found opponents to play from different schools and picked up solid wins over each.
The Lady Rebels faced the Union City Lady Tornadoes and gradually built up a lead to claim a 52-40 win.
In the nightcap, the Rebels played host to Dyersburg. McKenzie dominated the first quarter, but the momentum swung hard to the Trojans in the second. Trailing by five at the half, the Rebels regained the lead in the third. The teams battled back-and-forth until the final minutes, when McKenzie pulled away for a 53-45 victory.
Lady Rebels 52, Lady Tornadoes 40
The Lady Rebels had a 14-11 lead after the opening frame, led by Lilly Bennett with five points. Briley Auvenshine scored four, Kylie Reynolds had three points, and Mikaela Reynolds had a pair. Sophie Theobald led Union City with five points, including a three-pointer. Jada Williams scored four, and Khia German had a pair.
The Lady Tornadoes cut the deficit with an 11-10 edge in the second quarter, led by Amari Bonds with five points. Williams scored four, and S. Theobald added a pair. M. Reynolds and Dani Dyer each scored four points for McKenzie, and Anna Callahan had a pair. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 24-22.
McKenzie had a 16-12 advantage in the third, led by Savannah Davis with six points on a pair of threes. K. Reynolds scored four with a three-pointer. Bennett, Callahan and Kyeana Sneed each had a pair. Bonds led Union City with six points, Williams scored four, and Marlee Theobald had a pair. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 40-34.
The Lady Rebels doubled up the Lady Tornadoes 12-6 in the fourth, led by K. Reynolds with four points. Dyer, Davis, M. Reynolds and Bennett each added a pair. Williams, Bonds and S. Theobald each added a pair for Union City.

Lady Tornado Jada Williams led all scorers with 14 points. Amari Bonds scored 13.
Kylie Reynolds led McKenzie with eleven points, including a three-pointer. Lilly Bennett scored nine.
McKenzie Rebels 53, Dyersburg Trojans 45
The Rebels stormed out to a 15-3 lead after the first frame, led by Marquez Taylor with nine points, including a three-pointer. Caleb Gill scored six. Ace Mahaffey hit a three for Dyersburg.
The Trojans responded with a 26-9 advantage in the second quarter, led by Mahaffey with eight points, including a pair of threes. Jaylon Brown scored seven with a three, Kewan Hubbard and Ty’Mon Harvey had four points each, and Jamari Currie hit a three. Taylor led McKenzie with five points, including a three. Bryson Steele and Eli Surber each had a pair. At the half, Dyersburg led 29-24.
McKenzie outscored the Trojans 13-7 in the third, led by Steele with six points. Johnathan Moore hit a three, and Taylor and Gill each added a pair. Mahaffey hit a three for Dyersburg, and Hubbard and Harvey each added a pair. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led 37-36.
The Rebels closed out the win with a 16-9 tilt in the fourth, led by Taylor with five points, including a three. Zayden McCaslin scored four with a three-pointer. Steele, Surber and Gill each added a pair, and Jaden Currie hit a free throw. Brown led the Trojans with five points, and Jamari Currie and Mahaffey each added a pair.
Rebel Marquez Taylor led all scorers with 21 points, including a trio of threes. Bryson Steele and Caleb Gill each scored ten.
Ace Mahaffey led Dyersburg with 16 points, including four three-pointers. Jaylon Brown scored a dozen with a three.
