Lady Rebels Top Lady War Eagles, 8-3

McKENZIE (April 5) — The McKenzie High School Lady Rebels hosted West Carroll Monday for a district softball contest. The visiting Lady War Eagles struck first, but the Lady Rebels used the long ball to come back in the middle innings and claim an 8-3 victory.
West Carroll took an early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first frame. McKenzie pulled ahead with a five-run third inning and added three more in the fifth. The Lady War Eagles plated one in the seventh.
Lady Rebel Nicole Gibson went 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored. Kassidy Brown was 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Savannah Davis went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Belle O’Brien was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Lady War Eagle Kaylee Butler went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. Alyssa Butler was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Kirsten Baker, Skylar Jones and Hope Coleman were each 1-for-3. Kelsey Holmes went 1-for-4.
Kassidy Brown got the start in the circle for McKenzie, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk in an inning and two-thirds. Katie Chesser earned the win in relief, allowing one unearned run on four hits while striking out four and walking two in five innings.
Autumn Houston took the loss for West Carroll, allowing three earned runs on four hits while striking out two and walking one in four innings. Kaylee Butler pitched the final two frames, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out one.
