Lady Rebels Win Opener Over Wayne County, Advance to Semis

McKENZIE (February 28) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels defeated the Wayne County Lady Wildcats 63-44 Friday at Bethel University’s Crisp Arena to open the Region 6A Girls Basketball Tournament.
With the win, they advanced to a semifinal contest against Loretto Monday at Wayne County High School in Waynesboro.
The Lady Rebels had an 18-11 edge after the opening frame, led by Shelby Davis with six points. Dani Dyer scored four points. Kylie Reynolds hit a three-pointer, and Lilly Bennett also scored three points. Camille Travis had a pair. Kelley Baugus led the Lady Wildcats with four points. Henley Floyd hit a three, and Savanna McClain and Michaela Gallian each had a pair.
McKenzie added to the lead with a 13-3 advantage in the second quarter, led by Bennett with four points. Travis hit a three, and Davis, Savannah Nesbitt and Anna Callahan each had a pair. Gallian added a pair for Wayne County, and Baugus hit a free throw. At the half, McKenzie led 31-14.

The Lady Rebels pulled away 20-7 in the third, led by Davis with seven points, including a three. Travis scored six on a pair of three-pointers. Bennett had three points, and Nesbitt and Callahan each added a pair. Baugus led the Lady Wildcats with four points, and Cambree Camfield hit a three. Entering the final frame, McKenzie led 20-7.
Wayne County rallied 23-12 in the fourth for a closer final score, led by Lauren Bryant with five points, including a three-pointer. Baugus scored four points. Floyd and Charli Woodside each hit a three, and Gallian also had three points. Camfield and Lexi Lee each had a pair, and McClain hit a freebie. Bennett led McKenzie with four points. Nesbitt and Dyer each scored three, and Callahan added a pair.
Lady Rebel Shelby Davis led all scorers with 15 points, including a three-pointer. Lilly Bennett scored 14, and Camille Travis had eleven with a trio of threes.
Kelley Baugus led the Lady Wildcats with 13 points.
