McKENZIE (February 28) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels defeated the Wayne County Lady Wildcats 63-44 Friday at Bethel University’s Crisp Arena to open the Region 6A Girls Basketball Tournament.
With the win, they advanced to a semifinal contest against Loretto Monday at Wayne County High School in Waynesboro.
The Lady Rebels had an 18-11 edge after the opening frame, led by Shelby Davis with six points. Dani Dyer scored four points. Kylie Reynolds hit a three-pointer, and Lilly Bennett also scored three points. Camille Travis had a pair. Kelley Baugus led the Lady Wildcats with four points. Henley Floyd hit a three, and Savanna McClain and Michaela Gallian each had a pair.
McKenzie added to the lead with a 13-3 advantage in the second quarter, led by Bennett with four points. Travis hit a three, and Davis, Savannah Nesbitt and Anna Callahan each had a pair. Gallian added a pair for Wayne County, and Baugus hit a free throw. At the half, McKenzie led 31-14.
