Lady Rebels Win Thriller Over Fillies to Claim Title

McKENZIE (December 5) — The Carroll County Middle School Girls Basketball Tournament wrapped up Thursday at McKenzie Middle School with the championship game between the host Lady Rebels and the Huntingdon Fillies. The contest was tight from start to finish, knotted at 21-21 after three quarters. The Fillies took the ball down the court in the final seconds down by one with a chance to win, McKenzie came away with a steal to clinch a 28-27 victory and claim the title.
Following the game, the All-County Team was recognized: McKenzie’s Sophie Pate, Nicole Gibson, Kyeana Sneed, MiKaela Reynolds and Savannah Davis; Huntingdon’s Josey Stokes, Ashlyn Rich, Lilly Kee and Kelby Crossno; and Clarksburg’s Maleigha Abdallah, Sam Seagraves and Chloe Crum.
The Fillies had an 8-6 lead after the opening frame, led by Lilly Kee with four points. Kelby Crossno and Ashlyn Rich each had a pair. Lady Rebel Savannah Davis scored four, and MiKaela Reynolds had a pair.

McKenzie rallied 5-2 in the second quarter to take the lead. Davis again led with four points, and Kyeana Sneed hit a free throw. Delaney Byars had Huntingdon’s two points. At the half, the Lady Rebels led 11-10.
Huntingdon had an 11-10 edge in the third to tie things up, led by Rich with six points. Quinn Kelly hit a three-pointer, and Crossno added a pair. Reynolds led McKenzie with six, including a three. Davis and Sneed each added a pair. Entering the final frame, it was 21-21.
The Lady Rebels squeaked out the win with a 7-6 advantage in the fourth, led by Davis with five points, including a three-pointer. Sneed added a pair. Rich led the Fillies with four, and Kee added a pair.
McKenzie’s Savannah Davis led all scorers with 15 points, including a three. MiKaela Reynolds scored eight points, also with a three-pointer. Ashlyn Rich led Huntingdon with 12 points. Lilly Kee scored six.
