HUNTINGDON (July 22) — A 150 megawatt solar array on 2,000 acres of land in southwest Carroll County is proposed for construction by Silicon Ranch, according to Danny Brawner, manager, Carroll County Electric Department.

Brawner said the project is under consideration by the Nashville-based company, which involves former Governor Phil Bredesen and Matthew Kisber, a Jackson native, who served as Bredesen’s commissioner of Economic Development. Investigators include Shell Oil and other major investors.

The company built area projects at Millington Air Station, Jackson, Nashville, and many others. The company partners with Tennessee Valley Authority to provide green-generated energy.

According to Brawner, the project would be 30 times larger than the one along I-40 in Haywood County and would require seven to nine months for the approximately 500 construction workers to complete in the years 2023-23.

The company would pay local property taxes, said Brawner.

Joseph Butler, mayor of Carroll County, said the project is a huge project for Carroll County.

In other business, the local board of directors approved a quote of $234,000 for general liability insurance, workers’ compensation and cybersecurity insurance. That’s a 3.5 percent increase over the previous year for equal coverage. Nathan Smothers with Huntingdon Insurance Agency, said the increase in comparable with other increases in premiums.
