McKENZIE — Services for Lela Provo Carter are Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home. Visitation is Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Internment is at Poplar Grove Cemetery in Springville, Tenn.
Mrs. Carter, 94, died Sunday, February 16, 2020 at her residence at Lakeside Retirement. She was born in Springville on March 6, 1925 to Jerry Edwin and Hattie Wimberly Provo. She was a graduate of Springville High School and received her Master’s in teaching from Murray State University. Mrs. Carter was a retired teacher for McKenzie Elementary School, a member of First Baptist Church, the Eastern Star, the Red Hat Ladies and Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by two daughters Karen (Riley) Kail of Springville, and Sherry (John) Robinson of Lavinia, four grandchildren Will (Alicia) Robinson of Lavinia, Emily (Jeremy) Burns of Nashville, Carter Robinson of Nashville and Jim Dunn III of Roanoke, Ala., and seven great-grandchildren Jace, Mia, Reese, John Parker, Addison, Ainsley and Braden. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph Phillip (J.P.) Carter, son Jerry Phillip Carter and brother, Wilford Provo. Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. +
