Posted

Lisa Norris, Ph.D. will participate in the 2021 U.S. Supreme Court Summer Institute for Teachers. She is one of 60 educators across the U.S. who was chosen to participate.
Dr. Norris is the teacher of Criminal Justice at the Carroll County Technical Center in Huntingdon. She is a graduate of McKenzie High School, and earned a master’s degree from Bethel and a doctorate from Walden University. She previously taught Criminal Justice, Orientation, and Critical Thinking at Bethel University. Norris has worked as a sheriff’s deputy and was the co-founder of Carroll Academy. She has also trained at the UT-Knoxville with the Forensic Anthropology Center and is also certified as a security guard.
COVID-19 pandemic forced this year’s event to be virtual. The online program begins June 17 and ends June 23 and provides information about how justices are nominated, how cases are selected to be heard, plus information on prior court cases and participation in mock cases.

The program is an intense study of the Supreme Court and how it works. The workshops provide interactive strategies to teach local students lessons about the Supreme Court and its cases. Norris will learn how to use online and video media to research and teach about the Supreme Court.
Norris is a teacher who likes for her students to have both book knowledge and first-hand knowledge of the criminal justice system. She teaches Street Law - A Course in Practical Law. She teaches pre-law and Criminal Justice III. She takes her students on field trips to the county jail, General Sessions Court, the 911 emergency call center, and the firing range with sheriff’s deputies.
Dennis Stokes, principal of CCTC, wrote a letter of support for Norris to be selected.
