The two-week TSSAA dead period for all sports is underway and comes to an end July 6. Local schools have finalized their football schedules for this fall.
MCKENZIE
McKenzie looks to improve on a long 3-7 season last year and it could happen with some changes in personnel and their schedule. The Rebels have changed several opponents on their schedule including one region opponent. Trinity Christian (TCA) has moved to Division II giving McKenzie another non-region contest. Scotts Hill and Waverly are also gone from the schedule. The region opponents still include Trenton, Halls, Gibson County, Union City and Adamsville. The non-region opponents include familiar foes Huntingdon and West Carroll. The new schools on the schedule include Stewart County, Dresden and Obion County.
The Rebels will host Martin Westview in jamboree action August 16 beginning at 6 p.m. They open the season August 23 hosting Huntingdon before traveling to West Carroll on August 30. The Rebels open September at Trenton September 6 in their first region contest. Their open date is September 13 before hosting Halls in region action on September 20. They wrap up September traveling over the river to Stewart County on September 27.
October opens with a pair of games on the road at Gibson County October 4 and at Dresden October 11. McKenzie’s last three games will be at home against Union City October 18, Obion Central October 25, and Adamsville on November 1.
A minimum of two region wins should put the Rebels in the playoffs which begin November 8.
HUNTINGDON
The Mustangs have not lost a regular season game since losing to Milan early in the 2016 season. The bug that keeps biting them is losing close games in either the second or third week of the playoffs. Their schedule is the same as last year except for sites.
