UPDATE ON TIME OF SERVICE - McKENZIE  — A lakeside memorial service for Lonnie Jacob Stoner, Jr. is Friday, June 19, 2020, at 3 p.m. Those wishing to attend the service should meet at the home of Diane Stafford, 2730 Highway 423, McKenzie, at 2 p.m. and then drive to a private lake.
The service will include the Navy Honor Guard.
Mr. Stoner, 79, died Thursday, May 28, 2020 peacefully at home, with his loyal companion Luce by his side. He was born on May 29, 1940 in Nashville, Tenn. to Lonnie J. Stoner, Sr and Doris Redmond Stoner. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy June 9, 1958. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. After his release from the Navy on August 10, 1967, he lived in Jacksonville, Florida where he enjoyed fishing and developed his lifelong passion for designing and building custom boats. In the early 1980s he moved to Boise, Idaho, where he lived for more than thirty years with his wife, Melissa. After a number of moves, they settled back in his hometown of McKenzie. He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Kish Stoner, two daughters Suzanne Olson and Sherry Lynn Stoner, two sons, Ronald (Rosemary) Stoner and Donald Stoner, two sisters, Diane Stafford and Mary (John) Dixon, two brothers, Bill (Margaret) Stoner and Paul Stoner, and five grandchildren.
