The COVID-19 pandemic and the battle to contain it has led to changes in nearly every aspect of daily life and one of the most noticeable has been the absence of spring sports from our parks and schools.
The McKenzie High School track team was just days away from the start of the season when spring sports were suspended in mid-March and then ultimately canceled.
Head Coach Alex Hayes told The Banner, “I hate it for the kids. We worked for so many months to prepare, and now they won’t get to see the fruits of their labor. I’m pretty sure a few kids were going to make it to state. We also had some new members join the team, and I was excited to see them compete.”
The 2020 MHS track team includes seniors Carrie Becker, Amber Wright, Ajayla Williams, Dylan Crawford and Claudia Patrick; juniors Gracie Webb, Annabelle Medford, Allie Chappell, Chase Webb, Diego Huitzache, Chris Barnett and Ryan Christian; sophomores Meya Chesser, Jessica Moore, Ariel McCurdy, Emma Barnett and Joe’l Bilger; and freshmen Lilly Sumrok, Anna Patel, Marquez Taylor, Maria Halliburton and Jamya Teague.
