Emma Martin, of McKenzie, and Tera Townsend, of Huntingdon, will compete in the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant in Jackson. The pageant begins June 15 and ends with the crowning ceremony on June 18.

Emma competed in the Miss Tennessee Volunteer Pageant last year as Miss McNairy County Volunteer and placed in the Top 15 out of 36 contestants. This year, she returns as Miss Delta Blues Volunteer, a title she won October 2, 2021.

She is contestant 12 in Group A. This group competes in the talent competition on Wednesday, June 15, the fitness/swimsuit competition on Thursday, June 16, and the evening wear competition Friday, June 17. Like last year, Emma will sing in the talent competition.

Each contestant chooses a service project leading up to the pageant. Emma’s personal platform is Crowning Efforts: Promoting Volunteerism. She uses her platform to promote and encourage volunteerism through daily acts of service.

Emma graduated from McKenzie High School and currently studies at Bethel University, where will graduate with a degree in Business Management in December. After graduation, she will attend aesthetician school “to be able to do what [she loves] and help others feel beautiful daily.”

Tera Townsend is Contestant 24 in Group B. She, along with the other women in her group, will compete in Evening Wear on Wednesday, Talent on Thursday, and Swimsuit on Friday. Tera will sing in the talent competition.

Tera’s service platform is The STAR Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in Tennessee to assist and raise funds and awareness for cancer research.

Tera is a graduate of Huntingdon High School and of the School of Audio Engineering (SAE) Institute of Nashville. She is a recording artist in Nashville.

Among Emma and Tera’s contestants are Miss Bethel University Volunteer Gracelyn Eaves of Erin, Tennessee, and nine contestants from the University of Tennessee at Martin.

McKenzie’s Bella and Lola Batton will serve as Iris Princesses for Miss Humboldt Volunteer and Miss Tennessee Valley Volunteer. Dresden’s Emma Cate Carr is Iris Princess for Miss Carroll County Volunteer, Caleigh Jo Erwin of Dyersburg.

Pageant festivities begin Sunday, June 12, when all contestants arrive at the Carl Perkins Civic Center in Jackson. The preliminary competition begins at 7 p.m. on June 15, 16, and 17 at the Civic Center. Tickets for the pageant can be bought in the lobby of the Carl Perkins Civic Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or online at the Miss Tennessee Volunteer ticket page.
