  • Youth Leadership Completes 2022-2023 Sessions

    In 1999, the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce began sponsoring the Youth Leadership Carroll County (YLCC) program. Since that time, more than 570 students have graduated from YLCC. The classes are comprised of class members from each Carroll County high school. The program is made up of four sessions, two in the fall and two in the winter.

    The Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with multiple partners for the annual Tennessee River Jam. The four day music festival starts Thursday, June 1 and runs through Sunday, June 4 in Paris and Henry County.

  • Carroll County Democratic Party to Hold Reorganization Convention

    HUNTINGDON (March 4) — The Carroll County Democratic Party will hold a Reorganization Convention to elect new leaders on Tuesday March 21, 2023. The meeting will take place at the Municipal Building located at 1274 Lexington Street, Huntingdon, Tenn. Doors will open for registration and credentials at 6 p.m. Convention starts at 7 p.m. and doors closed at 7 p.m.

  • Inglenook Book Club March Meeting

    The Inglenook Book Club met on March 8 at the Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie with 22 members attending. President Carolyn Moore called the meeting to order and thanked hostesses Jean McKinnie and Genia Sherwood for the delicious cake, mixed nuts, chocolates and assorted beverages. The Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim and Club Motto were recited and March birthdays were recognized for Jean McKinnie, Suzanne Howell and Genia Sherwood.

    HUNTINGDON (March 10) — State Representative Tandy Darby spoke at the Carroll County Civic Center Friday morning. Darby stated the state house had over 1,500 bills at the start of the session. They have currently passed 95 that have come before them.

    The Bank of Gleason honored Martha Arnold for 50 years of service with an Open House on Friday, March 10. Friends and family members filtered in all day to congratulate Arnold and enjoy cake and punch. “Over all these years, it’s the people that have made all the difference. I’ve come to cherish each and every one of them,” said Arnold.

  • Unemployment in Tri-County Increases Slightly

    NASHVILLE — The percentage of unemployed persons increased slightly in the tri-county area of Carroll, Henry, and Weakley counties. Unemployment is near historic lows in the area, however, for the month of January 2023, the percentages increased while the state’s rate moved up to 3.5 percent from 2.9 percent from December 2022 to January 2023. Carroll County recorded a rate of unemployment at 4.6 percent in January compared to 3.5 percent one month earlier and 4.2 one year earlier. From a labor force of 11,094 were employed from a labor force of 11,629, leaving 535 unemployed.

  • McKenzie Students Tour Cachengo

    McKENZIE (March 7) — Twenty-five McKenzie High School students were allowed to tour the Cachengo facility at the former hospital building in McKenzie. The students were invited to the facility by Cachengo CEO, Ash Young. Members of the Young family and technicians of Cachengo explained the technology company’s mission of providing high-end data storage systems to meet global demands for Edge Computing, Machine Learning (ML), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) by replacing the over-use of single, large CPUs with several smaller ones, embedded in each drive to perform localized computing where the data actually sits.

    McKENZIE (March 7) — During the Tuesday evening meeting of the McKenzie Special School District Board of Education board members agreed to add cross country to McKenzie High School’s slate of athletic programs. Faculty member Beth Mathis will serve as the coach.

  • McKenzie Council Makes Two Appointments

    McKENZIE (March 9) — The City of McKenzie Board of Mayor and Council met Thursday evening with a light agenda. Two individuals from McKenzie were appointed at the recommendation of Mayor Ryan Griffin to the planning commission and housing authority. A.J. Maxwell was appointed to the McKenzie Regional Planning Commission and Karen Fowler was appointed to the housing authority.

  • Dresden Man Dies in Boating Accident

    HENRY COUNTY — A boating accident happened on the West Sandy portion of Kentucky Lake in Henry County at approximately 5 p.m. on Friday, March 10. The boating incident resulted in one fatality of a 39-year-old man.

    McKENZIE (March 13) — After defeating the Moore County Raiders 55-36 on Monday, March 6 in the Sectionals, the McKenzie Rebels are en route to the Glass House - the Murphy Center on the campus of MTSU.

  • Kylie Reynolds is A Miss Basketball Finalist 2022-23

    MURFREESBORO (March 13) — Kylie Reynolds of McKenzie is one of two finalists for the Class 1A, Division I Miss Basketball 2022-23. She has committed to play collegiate ball at Bethel University. Kylie and her sister, Mikaela are both starters for the Lady Rebels and helped the team earn the Class 1A basketball championship in Murfreesboro in March 2022 and 2023. She averaged 16.6 points per game during her 2022-23 season. Kylie is the daughter of Stephanie McClerkin and the late Roscoe McClerkin.

  • Lady Rebels Earn Back-to-Back State Championships

    MURFREESBORO (March 11) — The McKenzie Lady Rebels defended their state title by defeating the Wayne County Lady Wildcats 71-54. The Lady Rebels took a quick lead in the first quarter and added onto that throughout the night.
