    The Inglenook Book Club met February 8 at the Lakeside Senior Living Community in McKenzie with 19 members attending. Hostesses were Zia Locke and Beverly Mueller who served double chocolate cake, chocolate covered strawberries, assorted cheesecake balls, chocolate candies and beverages. The meeting was called to order by President Carolyn Moore and the Pledge of Allegiance, Club Aim and Motto were recited by all.

    McKENZIE (February 8) — Bethel University was the site of a meeting point for the beginning of discussions about education ties to the BlueOval City Project with Ford Motors and the SK battery pack corporation. The summit was initiated by the City of McKenzie to open dialogue between Ford and community leaders. Included in the luncheon were representatives from the McKenzie Special School District and Board of Education, the Carroll County Board of Education, TCAT-McKenzie, Bethel University along with city and county officials.

    HUNTINGDON (February 10) — Tennessee has a great story, said Senator John Stevens. The State of Tennessee is cutting taxes and growing revenues. The FY22 budget had a $2.6 billion surplus and the FY23 budget has an estimated $6.3 billion surplus. Tennessee has no new debts while shrinking the overall size of the budget.

    McKENZIE (February 9) — During the February meeting of the McKenzie City Council, on the first reading, the legislative body voted in favor of Ordinance #550 amending the text of McKenzie’s Zoning Ordinance Chapter 9, “Provisions Governing Industrial Districts”, Section 11-902 to include general merchandise in M-2 district (heavy industrial districts). This would allow for a proposed store like Dollar General to operate near the intersection of Highway 22 and University Drive. Once the second reading of Ordinance #550 is approved, the Dollar General developers will go back before the McKenzie Regional Planning Commission and present their design and other aspects to the commission before they begin construction.
