McKENZIE (March 16) — The historic pipe organ at the McKenzie First Cumberland Presbyterian Church was rededicated during a concert on Wednesday, March 16.

CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn. — Seven high school seniors from Carroll County were recognized by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce for their academic excellence by scoring a 29 or better on the national ACT test.

HUNTINGDON (March 14) — Two of three long-term debts in the county’s General Fund will be retired, following action of the Carroll County Commission on Monday, March 14.

McKENZIE (March 21) — Cachengo, a manufacturer and software provider for high-tech gear, purchased the former McKenzie hospital on Monday, March 21 from the McKenzie Industrial Board (IDB). Monica Heath, IDB Executive Director, Gary Simmons, IDB Chairman, and Keith Priestley, Secretary of the IDB signed the necessary documents to transfer the ownership to Cachengo. Kent Jones served as the attorney for both buyer and seller.

HUNTINGDON (March 17) — The purchase of new playground equipment for the Huntingdon Middle School was approved by the Board of Education on Thursday, March 17.

HUNTINGDON — McKenzie Rebels Soccer started their ’22 season on Tuesday, March 15 against the Mustangs who are in their first season of soccer play at the school. Will Essary had three saves as goalie while Jesse Calderon scored 2 goals and Hickman Guillermo had one goal. Camden Allison recorded an assist.

MURFREESBORO (March 14) — The top girls and boys basketball players in six classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association were honored by being named the winners of the 2022 Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards. The awards presentation took place on the floor of Murphy Center on the campus of MTSU on Monday, March 14 at 5 p.m.

ATLANTA (March 21, 2022) — The WBCA presents the Player of the Year award annually to the top player in five of the six WBCA membership divisions (NCAA Divisions II, and III, NAIA, two-year college and high school). The Player of the Year and the 10-member Coaches’ All-America team in each division are selected by a committee of WBCA member coaches in that division. The Wade Trophy is presented to the best player in NCAA Division I.

Carroll County Livestock Fundraiser The Carroll County Jr. Livestock Association is hosting a fundraiser and meet and greet Saturday, March 26 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Tractor Supply in Huntingdon. Burgers are $6 and hot dogs are $5. Plates come with chips and a drink. Profits and donations go towards monetary awards for CCJLA exhibitors. Come meet some of the animals and the kids raising them from our organization.

Multiple Drug Charges — According to a report filed by patrolman Steven Scott, he stopped a vehicle for failure to dim headlights on Sunday evening, March 20. The driver was identified as Amy Lynn Guentz, 35, of McKenzie. A license check revealed she did not have a valid license. Scott indicated Guentz appeared nervous and he asked if she had anything illegal in the vehicle to which she replied she did not. She refused consent to search her vehicle and Carroll County Deputy Cody Walker brought his K9 which alerted on Guentz vehicle.

Even though our family makes regular use of Natchez Trace State Park, I forget portions of the 48,000 acres of land lie within Carroll County. Part of the park’s claim to fame was surviving as the home of the “World’s Largest Pecan Tree,” now merely an oversized rotting stump, the once-grand attraction lives on through legends and a few tourists’ vacation photographs.
