MURFREESBORO (May 23) - The McKenzie Rebels had a fifth-inning rally that hoisted them to a 5-1 victory over the University School Buccaneers. The Rebels had three hits during the fifth inning that helped them take the lead.
McKenzie had a quick three outs to start the game and put them up to the plate. During the bottom of the first, Jackson Cassidy and Hayden Hixon had back-to-back singles. Tate Surber singled to shortstop to score Cassidy. The Rebels left two runners on base as the inning ended.
The Buccaneers answered back fast in the top of the second, tying the game at one. With two outs, University filled the bases. Peter Boynewicz scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
The teams were scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when the Rebels rallied to score four runs. Jackson Cassidy reached first base on a dropped third strike. Hixon singled to right field to score Cassidy. Ty Anderson took one for the team and walked down the line. Surber singled up the middle to score Hixson. Jake Cassidy doubled to left field to score Anderson and Surber. The Rebels led 5-1 at the end of the fifth inning.
