MURFREESBORO (May 23) - The McKenzie Rebels had a fifth-inning rally that hoisted them to a 5-1 victory over the University School Buccaneers. The Rebels had three hits during the fifth inning that helped them take the lead.
McKenzie had a quick three outs to start the game and put them up to the plate. During the bottom of the first, Jackson Cassidy and Hayden Hixon had back-to-back singles. Tate Surber singled to shortstop to score Cassidy. The Rebels left two runners on base as the inning ended.
The Buccaneers answered back fast in the top of the second, tying the game at one. With two outs, University filled the bases. Peter Boynewicz scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
The teams were scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when the Rebels rallied to score four runs. Jackson Cassidy reached first base on a dropped third strike. Hixon singled to right field to score Cassidy. Ty Anderson took one for the team and walked down the line. Surber singled up the middle to score Hixson. Jake Cassidy doubled to left field to score Anderson and Surber. The Rebels led 5-1 at the end of the fifth inning.

Lane Anderson and Nolan Renfro connected for all three outs in the top of the sixth.
The Rebels were sat down in order during the bottom of the inning.
Hixson made a throw across the diamond to Renfro for the first out of the seventh inning, then the Rebels closed the game out with two flyouts.
Tate Surber and Ty Anderson toed the rubber for the Rebels. Surber hurled four innings and Anderson took three. Surber allowed six hits, one run and served five strikeouts. Anderson took the win for the Rebels. He had no walks or hits.
The Rebels move on in the winner’s bracket and are set to play the East Robertson Indians on Wednesday, May 24. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m. at Rockvale High School.
The Rebels booted the Buccaneers to the loser bracket. The Buccaneers are set to host the Bradford Red Devils at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
