McKENZIE — After an absence of approximately 40 years, McKenzie again has its own Chamber of Commerce. The new McKenzie Chamber of Commerce and Industry was certified as a Non-Profit 501c3 Organization last week by the Internal Revenue Service. Ed Perkins was the first member of the new Chamber. The membership drive is underway.
McKenzie businesspeople abolished the city Chamber in the early 1980s as a county-wide Chamber was being formed. Under the auspices of the McKenzie Industrial Board, the new Chamber was formed to serve as the driving force of economic and community development in the city.
Monica Heath, executive director of the Industrial Board, was authorized by the nine-member board to develop the necessary paperwork to start the Chamber.
The mission of the new Chamber is to “promote business, enhance economic and community development of McKenzie, and serve as a catalyst for improving the overall quality of life of all citizens in McKenzie, Carroll County, and West Tennessee.”
