The McKenzie High School golf teams played three matches last week, earning wins at each location, including a pair of sweeps on their home course.
On Monday, August 24, the teams traveled to Milan Golf Course to play against USJ, South Gibson and Milan. When the scores were added up after completing the nine-hole match, both teams came up a little short.
The ladies fell to USJ and Milan while claiming a win over South Gibson. The ladies’ match was close with USJ scoring 79, Milan 81 and McKenzie 85.
Maggie Glass led the team with a 37 and Juleyanne Weatherford shot 48.
The gentlemen fell to South Gibson and USJ and tied with Milan. South Gibson scored 177, USJ came in with 178, and McKenzie and Milan each scored 186.
Johnathan Moore led the team with a 43, Nathan Nanney shot 47, Logan Green 48 and Nolan Renfro 48.
On Tuesday, August 25, the team played at home, hosting West Carroll, Gleason and Gibson County.
The ladies swept their opponents (Gleason and Gibson County) by 29 strokes or better. Maggie Glass was match medalist, shooting 39. Juleyanne Weatherford shot 45, and Payton Ognibene shot 54.
The gentlemen also had a clean sweep over their three opponents, West Carroll, Gleason and Gibson County, by 22 stokes or better. Johnathan Moore was match medalist, shooting 34. Nathan Nanney shot 39, Nolan Renfro 39, Logan Green 41, Matt Espy 41 and Ben Dillon 53.
On Thursday, August 27, the team traveled to Humboldt Golf Course to play against Milan and South Gibson.
Both the ladies’ and men’s matches were extremely close.
For the ladies, Maggie Glass shot 37, Juleyanne Weatherford 41 and Payton Ognibene 54, losing to Milan by only two strokes but claiming the win over South Gibson by ten strokes.
The gentlemen followed suit, losing to South Gibson by only four strokes but claiming victory over Milan by 12 strokes.
Johnathan Moore shot 39, Nathan Nanney and Nolan Renfro shot 42, Logan Green shot 43 and Ben Dillon 51.
