The McKenzie Garden Club met on March 23 in the Hospitality Room at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church-McKenzie. This was the 91st anniversary of the club’s founding. Roll call was taken by Susan Lawrence, club secretary. Sixteen members were present. Everyone enjoyed a buffet-style luncheon.
Those celebrating birthdays in March were Angie Menne, Myra Sasser, Cynthia Summers and Judy McCadams. The meeting was opened with devotional and prayer by Ms Willie Mae Forrester. The business meeting was called to order by incoming president, Donna Hodge. Cynthia Summers gave the treasurer’s report. A discussion regarding increasing the dues was suggested. A motion by Cynthia and seconded by Linda Howton to increase the dues was passed by a unanimous vote.

Sunshine chairman, Gladys Patterson reported the club had donated $50.00 to Carroll County Humane Society in memory of Tracy Taylor, daughter of club president, Donna Hodge. She is also sending a card to Ms. Wilma Hanson in appreciation for her many years of service to the club.
Ms. Hanson is terminating her membership due to health issues.
Special guest Mayor Jill Holland spoke to the club regarding new projects planned for the downtown area. She said an arboretum will be added adjacent to City Hall. Trees will be added as they are donated. Also in the planning stage is a wide sidewalk that will be built from downtown to the Subway, Dollar General area. This will provide much needed safety. Accompanying Mayor Holland was Rob Goad representing Northwest Tennessee Development District. Mr Goad is a grant writer for project management. At the conclusion of the program a motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. The members then read the Collect.
