Simple Possession/Resisting Arrest — McKenzie Police were called to Block City Pizza earlier this month in regards to a male driver falling asleep in the drive-through window. The driver was seen pulling around back of the restaurant to park and passed out.
According to the report filed by Kyle Beauchamp, several officers responded and found Tripp Cox of Clarksdale, Miss, passed out in a silver Chevy Equinox. One patrolman woke him and started a conversation. Cox was observed moving around in the vehicle attempting to conceal stuff from the police officers. Other officers observed him attempting to destroy potential evidence and he was forcibly removed from his vehicle after being tased for disobeying commands. He admitted to eating two small baggies of heroin which prompted officers to contact EMS. Cox was transported to Baptist Hospital in Huntingdon. A search of his vehicle revealed several small baggies of loose pills that were not in proper pill bottles along with several items of drug paraphernalia and over $1,000 in cash.
Cox was charged with Possession of Schedule II, 2 counts of Possession of Schedule IV, Tampering With Evidence, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was booked and released on recognizance due to a medical condition.
Simple Possession/Drug Paraphernalia — Officer Jeff Lowden observed a blue Honda speeding on Hwy 79 early Friday morning, May 3, and initiated a traffic stop. Lowden was able to smell what he thought was marijuana as he approached the vehicle. Fanquinnton Strickland of Clarksville was placed in custody while his vehicle was searched. Officers found a small amount of green leafy stuff thought to be marijuana along with a bong and scales. According to Lowden’s report, Strickland was charged with Simple Possession of a Schedule VI drug and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and cited for Speeding as well.
Weapon on School Property — MHS school officials were alerted that a juvenile had brought knives to school last Wednesday, May 1. According to the report, Principal Tim Watkins was notified by another student and confronted the juvenile and confiscated 2 knives and notified School Resource Officer Nick Lowe.
Assault — Last Monday, April 29, McKenzie Police responded to a call involving an altercation between two students. Officer Jeremiah Brooks spoke with Bethel Security and observed a video of the event showing Laderrick Means of McKenzie assault Cody Gough of Covington, Tenn. in the lobby of West Hall as he attempted to get up from a sofa. Means was charged with Simple Assault with a bond of $250.
Domestic Assault — McKenzie Police responded to a 911 call at a Hamilton Street residence. The caller advised her mother had a knife and had been told to call 911 by her dad. Several officers responded and interviewed Michael and Jamie Phillips about the incident. Mr. Phillips stated that he and his wife had been having a conversation that turned into an argument during which his wife threw a comb striking Phillips and causing a cut on his forehead. Mrs. Phillips was determined to be the aggressor and was charged with Domestic Assault and transported to Carroll County Jail.
Criminal Trespass — Officer Billy King responded to a call last Monday, April 29 at Sonic regarding a male trespassing at Sonic. Sonic’s manager indicated he wanted to pursue charges, Maurice Lawrence of McKenzie was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass and taken to the Carroll County Jail.

Theft — Tuesday, April 30, an employee of G&B Motors reported a break-in during which a set of four American Racing wheels along with one Nissan wheel and tire were taken.
The employee also stated a customer’s truck had been tampered with but was not sure if anything was taken from it. Tools were found that did not belong to G&B and were taken for evidence. The incident is still under investigation.
Driving On Suspended License — Officer Jeremiah Brooks investigated a car accident Monday morning, April 29, resulting in damage to the sign at Servall Pest Control and charges. Thomas Jones of McKenzie told Brooks that he was Revoked for a DUI conviction and did not have a drivers license.
According to Brooks’ report, it appeared that Jones was traveling north on Hwy 79 when he left the road and hit the sign.
No skid marks were observed. He was charged with Driving on Suspended License Due to DUI Conviction and has a DUI charge pending blood test results.
Driving on Suspended/Revoked License — Officer Jeff Lowden initiated a traffic stop on Wednesday, May 3, for running the stop sign at the intersection of Cherry and Main streets.
The driver, Raymond Lockett, was found to have multiple charges of driving on a suspended license. Lockett was charged with his 5th Offense Driving on Suspended/Revoked License and Violating Traffic Control Device and transported to Carroll County Jail under $1,250 bond.
Driving on Suspended/Revoked License — Patrolman Dalton Raspberry initiated a traffic stop Wednesday, May 3 on a vehicle for not having its registration plate illuminated. The driver, Mary R. Galloway, of Huntingdon, was found to be also driving on a suspended license. Galloway was charged with 1st Offense Driving on Suspended/Revoked License and Improper Display of Plates.
