Victim Drowns in Motel Bathtub — A Dyer, Tennessee woman is believed to have drowned in the bathtub of the Relax Inn Motel, McKenzie, on July 10.
According to a report filed by Darren Davis, officers responded to Relax Inn, Room 115, Highland Avenue, at 5:23 a.m., where they found Laquita L. Powell, 51, Freemont Street, Dyer, Tennessee, unresponsive.
Officer Matthew Cunningham, Dustin McClure and Sergeant Davis were nearby when the call came into MPD.
The report indicates officers entered the motel room and found two males present in the main room and the victim lying on the floor of the bathroom. Officers checked for a pulse without success and determined the temperature of her body was warm. CPR was initiated and an ambulance was called. CPR continued as the patient was loaded in the ambulance. The EMTs determined rigor mortis had set in and contact between the EMTS and a medical doctor allowed CPR to cease.
The report indicates the body possibly was in the water a significant time, contrary to the statement by the two males, who indicated they had last seen her one hour prior to MPD’s arrival.
Sergeant Austin Jones and Officer Dalton Raspberry arrived with Chief Ryan White to help with the investigation. The incident remains under investigation.
Driving On Suspended — Brenna Danyell Blakemore, 26, Murfreesboro, was charged with Driving on a Suspended License, Speeding and Following too Closely on July 13.
Officer Dustin McClure observed Blakemore’s vehicle traveling 63 in a 45-mile-per-hour zone and initiated a traffic stop on Highland Drive. A check of the license revealed the Suspended status. She was charged as listed above and cited into General Sessions Court.
Violation of Probation — Christopher Mann, 44, Rochelle Road, McKenzie, was arrested on an outstanding warrant of Violation of Probation on July 13.

Officer Dustin McClure responded to a call of a truck in the roadway on Spruce Street around 10:20 p.m. The caller indicated excessive noise as individuals worked on the vehicle. McClure observed a male sitting in a nearby car, where he found Christopher Mann and transported him to jail.
Leaving the Scene of an Accident — Christie Smothers, 35, Locust Street, McKenzie was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
Officer Shy’Ann Williams reported an Audi was parked in a parking lot and was damaged by another vehicle, which drove from the scene. A license number was provided. Officer Williams found Smothers and cited her for leaving the scene.
Failure to Appear — Sean Rodrick Adams, 56, Hazel Circle, McKenzie was arrested on an outstanding warrant in Weakley County for Failure to Appear.
Officer Timothy Dillon reported he, Patrolman Scott, and Sergeant Jackson went to the Adams’ home and made the arrest. Adams was handed over to Weakley County authorities.
Outstanding Warrant — Brianna Pug, 33, Thompson Road, Huntingdon, was arrested on an outstanding warrant, bench warrant out of Carroll County.
Sergeant Cody Coleman reported MPD had an anonymous caller stating Pugh was at a Walnut Circle address. Officers arrived and found Pugh in a back room of the apartment. She was held under a $10,000 bond.
Shoplifting — Tina M. Younger, 56, Big Sandy, and also had a McKenzie address, was charged with Shoplifting on July 9.
Officer Dustin McClure responded to Dollar General, Highway 22 where he reviewed security footage of Younger reportedly concealing merchandise in her clothing. A warrant was issued for Younger and she was additionally banned from the store.
