McKenzie’s Soccer Rebels played host to Memphis East for a shot at the State Soccer Tournament on Saturday, May 21 at Bethel University.

The first half went by with a lot of defensive play for both teams but neither team scored in the half. Stafford Roditis put the Rebels on the board first with a goal on a penalty kick early in the second half for a 1-0 lead. Memphis East tied the game 1-1 with a goal with 23:20 left in the game. They took a 2-1 lead with a goal with 6:57 left in the game. McKenzie’s Cordell Orgain tied it 2-2 on a goal that sent the game into overtime. The first overtime went scoreless sending the game into a second overtime. Orgain hit the game-winner with 7:51 left in the second overtime to put the Rebels up 3-2. Will Essary recorded five saves in the game with Roditis getting an assist on a goal.

After the game, Coach Karlene Brown praised the Rebel players for their effort during the game and all year. “This game was super super rough, a high-intensity game but we were ready and wanted it more in the end. I’m excited for these boys, they’ve worked hard all year. We’ve had a lot of injuries along the way. The boys know how to come work hard and work together.”
